Greetings golfers,
An indication that the golfing season is not that far away is when the sheet goes up for the Mens Ireland v The Rest match. This match is played on the 12th March and is a must for any new member. The Day kicks off with breakfast and if you fancy a couple pints of Guinness followed by 18 holes representing your chosen team, the day finishes with a few more pints and then the Featherstone Auction.
I was back playing in a Captain and Pro match on Sunday after a few weeks off. The Captain and I got back to our winning ways with a narrow victory over Nick Bird and Chris Amas. The summer series will start in April, sign-ups will be done through the IG system with the best 8 results going through to compete for the Captains Salver.
Carrying on from last year I will also be playing Captain and Pro matches with the ladies section, dates will be on the noticeboard shortly.
The New PING G range of Drivers, Fairways, Hybrids and Irons are now in store along with the new XR16 range from Callaway.
Now that the new SkyTrak launch monitor is fitted into the swing room it is the perfect time to compare your clubs with this year's new products.
Let us improve your game by making sure you have the right equipment.
Matt has just returned from Sotogrande, Spain where he has been playing in the Mena Tour Q School. The Mena tour is a satellite tour which directly Links into the Challenge Tour and European Tour. The 1st round had to be cancelled due to bad weather, the event was cut to 36 holes. We're glad to say Matt qualified through and has gained full playing rights to this year's 20 plus events that are being held in over 10 countries.
We look forward to seeing how Matt progresses and will keep you informed throughout the season.
Kevin and I played in the Surrey AGM Fourball event at Walton Heath on Monday finishing 6th out of 28 pairs on 3 under, 3 shots off the winning score. Kevin also finished 2nd at the Berkshire on Wednesday scoring 1 under in the South Region Winter Series, great result Kev!
Also well done to Ben Wheeler who came 10th in his 1st pro event on the Alps tour another great result.
The greenkeepers have been busy this week on the 16th hole, carrying on the clearing works to woodland area to the right. This will help both the playability of the hole for the golfers whilst enhancing the woodland.
They have also filled in the left-hand greenside bunker. This was documented in the course report that was produced by Alan Walker back in 2014, once the grass has grown we will be trying to create a grassy hollow/runoff area that will allow for a range of shots to be played.
