Lombard Trophy Qualifier - 4th June 

Don't miss your chance to play with myself at Walton Heath in the largest Pro-Am in Europe. 

For just £3 you can enter the qualifier which will be held in conjunction with the June Medal. 

Last year Gus Steel and I narrowly missed out on a trip to Portugal, so let's see if this year's qualifier can go a couple better and get on that plane.  

 

Greens Maintenance 

Overall we are extremely pleased with our spring renovations and hopefully members and guests will now be able to enjoy the course. 

Greens maintenance was completed in 3 to 4 days during which the greens were hollow, solid and pencil tined, with repeated sand dressing. 

All greens were then left to recover for a couple of days with only light vibrating rolling to help work the sand in to the soil profile and help smooth the surfaces. 

During the next 10 days the height of cut was reduced, whilst ongoing moisture levels were monitored, with the end result being a return to smooth refined surfaces, in little over 2 weeks.

Lady Captain and Pro 

Last Thursday I played my 1st match of the season against Debbie Mason and Jill Warburton just managing to scrap home 2 and 1. Some great golf was played from all 3 ladies especially Debbie who started 3 nett 2, 4 nett 3 and then 5 nett 3, never mind her nett score she was beating me of scratch!

Men's Captain and Pro 

So far Barry and I have played 7 matches winning 3 losing 3 and one half, whoever agreed to change from ¾ of handicap to 9/10ths!!!! If any pair would like to challenge us to a mid week match please drop me an email and we will try to fit you in.

 

So, another weekend, another win for Australia's Jason Day, who cruised to a four-stroke victory at Sawgrass to take golf's unofficial 'fifth Major' - the Players Championship. 

We say 'cruised' but that doesn't necessarily tell the full story. Despite reaching the halfway point in a record 129 blows, it was tough going thereafter with the world number one even treating us to a few duffed chips and a four-putt. 

However, the 28-year-old was not to be denied, and reminded everyone of his class and mental toughness when he completed the back nine in 33, just when he was starting to look vulnerable. Remind you of anyone? 

Ah yes, Tiger Woods, who's been back in the news this week after attending Congressional Country Club for the Quicken Loans National media day. 

As part of a promotional stunt for a charitable effort from his tournament's title sponsor, he took to the tee on the par-3 10th - and dunked three efforts into the water. 

It would appear Woods is still a long way off making a competitive return to action. For now, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the Jason Day Show - there would seem to be a few more of them on the way. It's now seven wins in 17 starts by the way, impressive stuff.
