For all those playing in this weekend's Mens Medal don't forget to enter the Lombard Qualifier which is a separate competition and win the chance to play at Walton Heath GC.
Thanks to Mark Kenyon, Neil Wilson, Sam Wallis, Gerry Murphy and Paul Daniels who along with me represented the club last week at Croham Hurst in the Selsdon Trophy. The format of 36 holes medal with all scores counting took its toll on the team finishing somewhat of the pace set by the winning club Addington Palace, on a more positive note I managed to win the Pros individual prize with a 36 total of level par.
Well done to the Mens Mail on Sunday team who beat Wentworth last Saturday by 4 matches to 1, they now progress to the last 64 of this national event.
Wood a winner at Wentworth
Has a nice ring to it doesn't it, especially for a certain young man from Bristol?
All the talk ahead of the European Tour's flagship event had been pretty negative, with a whole host of top names dropping out of the BMW PGA Championship for one reason or another. There was no Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy or Justin Rose, to name but a few, but we were treated to quite some finale, with Chris Wood coming from off the pace to claim the most significant tournament of his career.
'Woody' gave his own masterclass on ball-striking as he went out in a record-equalling 29 shots at Wentworth - and despite wobbling on the back nine, the 28-year-old held on to win by one stroke from Rikard Karlberg.
The win earned Wood £833,330 and put him into Ryder Cup contention, not a bad week's work.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Jordan Spieth fired a final-round 65 to win the Colonial National Invitational by three shots.
This now means that the top three players in the world, Jason Day, Spieth and McIlroy, go into this week's Memorial tournament having won their last events.
Looking ahead though, how nicely is the US Open at Oakmont shaping up? Lots to look forward to… |
